Impermanence Series |
My work addresses change and contrast. It is all a matter of perspective how we interact with change. Both positives and negatives arise from every situation. As humans we tend to try and control the forces of change in our lives. We struggle against the unknowns until they are eradicated or until we become used to them.
Everything is under a state of construction or deconstruction. The natural tendency is to favor one over the other. In my work I became comfortable with producing both forces. During the process of burning and cutting I felt the power of impermanence and change. Destruction can lead to devastation but also new opportunities.
Joan Miró, in his later work, developed a series of ‘burnt and lacerated canvases.’ I want to build upon Miró’s use of fire as a medium. “I love to work with fire. Fire has unforeseeable reactions. It destroys less than it transforms, it acts on what it burns with an inventive force which possess magic.” Change leads to possibility.
All Pieces Are Lighted with LED lights.
